I’m really beginning to think the Nishika is a pretty crappy camera. I’m digging out the Nimslo. For real.
Anyway, here’s another animation. This is Kaya .
Kaya in 3D. . . kinda.
The 3D camera takes 4 images simultaneously, each image uses half of a standard frame, so when some junky place like Walgreen’s prints the photos incredibly terribly, it is difficult to crop and place the images on top of each other to make the animation. Walgreens then cut my negatives (which they were instructed not to do at all) through the middle of the images. Grrrrrrr..
So, last week during one of my thrift store runs (that’s where I get pretty much all of the materials that I use to make stuff), I found a Nishika N8000 for 4 bucks. It is a 4 lens 3D camera. I have another 4 lens camera, it’s a Nimslo. When I got the Nimslo about 15 years ago, there was nowhere to get the 3D prints made. You know, the lenticular prints that have the ribbed plastic film on top of them. Like a dinosaur ruler for kids. . . After I found the Nishika, I googled it and found out that there IS a place that makes the prints. It’s in Toronto. I’ll be sending them some film. In the meantime, I shot a roll on the new one and had it printed at Walgreens (they screwed it up BAD) but I scanned the prints and assembled them into this simple little animation. Enjoy. More coming soon.

Below are links to recordings made at the Ice House in Akron’s near North side. The Ice House is exactly what it is. . . the old ice storage facility for (apparently) a large area of Akron, OH. The building is immense. An open concrete and brick structure probably about 80 to 100 feet high inside. There must be about a million cubic feet of open, hard reflecting space in that room. It sounds incredible in there.
I recorded these tracks using a stereo pair of microphones widely separated. Edited and mastered using Audacity. No fx, no enhancing. The room speaks for itself.
